HIV/AIDS
Contact us for training on this topic.
Each year 40,000 people in the United States are infected with HIV,
and 20,000 of them are under the age of 25. Educators can help
students make sexual decisions that are consistent with their
long-term goals. There are a total of 1.1 million Americans, and
over 200,000 of them are unaware of their HIV status.
Students and educators are often in need of additional training
related to the ways in which HIV is transmitted. Additionally, there is
a clear intersection of homophobia/heterosexism and attitudes
toward HIV/AIDS. This is evidenced by the history of the US
response to HIV. For more information on the history of HIV/AIDS,
you can access Dr. Hall's A History of HIV/AIDS PowerPoint
presentation.
Dr. Hall works with educators and others to better understand the
relationship of bias toward sexual minorities and attitudes related
to HIV/AIDS. Additionally, motivations for risks of contracting HIV are
also examined.
As a result of this workshop, participants will be able to...
1. Summarize basic factual information related to HIV.
2. Examine a continuum of motivations for risk in contracting HIV.
3. Analyze media portrayals of sexual minorities related to HIV/AIDS.
4. Identify the relationship between homophobia/heterosexim and
HIV/AIDS.
