Teaching American History Federal Grant
Public schools, charter schools, and intermediate units are eligible
for $1 million professional development grants for teaching
traditional American history. While many schools would value this
professional development program, teachers and administrators
are often already overwhelmed and find it difficult to dedicate the
time to administer this program. David M Hall Associates is able to
provide schools with extensive support to allow for implementation
of this program.
We work with nationally renowned scholars and master teachers.
Our professors and scholars lecture on traditional American
history. Our master teachers work with educators to utilize Marzano
research-based strategies for engaging instruction. This grant
includes extensive resources to allow for innovative classroom
integration. Read more...
Managing Sensitive Issues
Addressing Sexual Orientation Issues in School
Anti-gay behavior impacts productivity in the school environment. In
fact, gay teens are at a higher risk for suicide and other
self-destructive behaviors. Developing a better understanding of
addressing and managing gay issues in our school environment
will help us to create safer spaces and better reach our productivity
goals. Read more...
Sexual Harassment
Defining and examining the nature of harassment is a critical issue
to address in any school. The Supreme Court has ruled that
schools can be held financially responsible for cases of peer
sexual harassment. School personnel typically receive little if any
training in this critical area. Read more...
Domestic and Dating Violence
It is estimated that approximately one-third of women are in a
violent relationship at some point in their lives. While the
percentage of men who report being abused is much smaller, men
are also victims of domestic violence. Violent dating relationships
begin in middle school. And the effects of domestic violence are felt
by elementary school children whether the children are victims or
bystanders. This program helps schools better understand and
identify the nature of domestic violence (including child abuse) and
dating violence. Read more...
Bullying
According to the National Education Association, 160,000 children
miss school each day due to fear of being attacked or bullied. Even
verbal or electronic bullying can create health problems for
children. The safer that children feel in school, the better that they
will do in realizing their full potential. Read more...
Civics and Law
Citizenship
Good citizenship refers not just to how well we understand the
Constitution but also to the way in which we value and respect each
other, celebrate diversity, and work to make our nation, state, and
community a better place. These trainings are designed to raise
awareness while getting us to examine what being a good citizen
means to us as individuals and as a community. Listen to NPR's
coverage of David's high school civics class...
Free Speech
Perhaps one of the most divisive issues can be the practice of free
speech. While it is a right that most Americans support, true free
speech often creates discomfort and even conflict. Examining our
rights and responsibilities can help us better understand this
freedom and how to address conflict that it can create. Read more...
Religious Pluralism in Our Schools
The role of religion, the law, and public schools is a topic that too
few educators have examined. However, there have been clear
rules set forth that limit the rights of public school employees to
express their religion so as to maximize the rights of students to
freely express theirs. This workshop examines the rights of
teachers and students regarding religious expression in schools.

Searches and Seizures
What are the rights of employers and schools to conduct
warrantless searches? How is technology impacting our concept of
searches and seizures? As weapons and drugs have become an
increased concern in almost any school community, it is critical that
we take time to examine the rights and responsibilities of schools
regarding the Fourth Amendment. This workshop examines the
Fourth Amendment in the 21st Century.

Each year 40,000 people in the United States are infected with HIV,
and 20,000 of them are under the age of 25. Educators can help
students make sexual decisions that are consistent with their
