Since 1993, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has
investigated 15,000 to 16,000 sexual harassment complaints each
year. According to the EEOC, the best approach to avoiding sexual
harassment is prevention, and they evaluate the totality of the
environment at a company when investigating a sexual
harassment complaint.
To reach the legal threshold of being considered sexual
harassment, the behavior must be either severe or pervasive.
Sexual harassment can be perpetrated by any person to any other
regardless of sex. In fact, some law firms are beginning to see an
increase in cases of same-sex sexual harassment.
Training workers on the nature of sexual harassment as well as
the reporting process is critical to reducing incidents of
harassment as well as meeting the legal obligation of taking steps
for prevention.
